Equipment Compatibility

R-454B is intended for new equipment specifically designed, listed, and labeled for R-454B. It is not a drop-in retrofit refrigerant for existing R-410A systems. Do not charge R-454B into equipment that is not approved for A2L refrigerant service. Always follow the equipment manufacturer’s specified refrigerant charge, components, installation procedures, and applicable charge-size limits.

A2L Safety Requirements

R-454B is a mildly flammable A2L refrigerant. Keep away from flames, sparks, hot surfaces, and other ignition sources. Provide adequate ventilation and use approved A2L recovery machines, vacuum pumps, leak detectors, gauges, hoses, cylinders, and other service tools. Follow all applicable building codes, fire codes, safety standards, workplace requirements, and manufacturer instructions.

Certification Requirement

An appropriate EPA Section 608 technician certification, or qualifying employer documentation, is required for purchase. Additional A2L training may be required by an employer, equipment manufacturer, code authority, or applicable safety standard. Purchaser documentation may be reviewed before the product is released for shipment.

Charging and Handling

For professional use only. Remove and charge R-454B from the liquid phase using approved procedures to maintain blend composition. Do not mix it with R-410A or any other refrigerant. Recover refrigerant using A2L-rated equipment and do not intentionally vent. Review the applicable Safety Data Sheet before use.
